Family Driven Faith

Family Driven Faith - Voddie BauchamWhy are we losing 70% – 80% of our Christian teenagers by the end of their freshmen year of college? Voddie Baucham gives his thoughts on why we are, what went wrong, and his solutions to remedy the growing problem. This number continues to grow and we now have more “Christian” teens walking away from the faith than ever before despite the fact that the number of professional student and college pastors in the ministry is at an all time high. Something is broken!

Baucham (also author of “What He Must Be (If He Wants to Marry My Daughter) and pastor of Grace Family Baptist Church, Spring, TX) asserts that most if not all of these kids have little to no biblical foundation from the home. God has given the responsibility of instructing children in the Gospel, godliness, theology, doctrine, discipleship, etc. to the parents. He goes on to prove that family worship is the key and that the spiritual temperature of the family rises and falls with the father’s commitment to their spiritual growth.

This book was one of the most convicting, challenging, and encouraging books I have read. If you’re a dad that cares about the spiritual health of your children, or a man who is married or looking to get married and one day have a family… this book is for you! I literally could not put this book down and I have asked my wife to read through it as well (which she is excited to do). It’s so crucial that both parents are on the same page when it comes to the guidance and instruction of the kids.

I believe most men are a bit like me. I want to raise my kids to know, love, and serve God, I just need some help and direction on how to accomplish those goals. I know I can’t make my children love God, but I can lay a biblical foundation for them and give them a correct view of God and Scripture. I love the way Matt Chandler puts it: “We’re just gathering all the spiritual kindling we possibly can around our kids and begging God to ignite their souls for Him”. There is no guarantee that God will save my children even if my wife and I do everything we can. But, we have peace in the fact that all throughout the Bible it appears that God is in the habit of saving the children of those who love and honor Him.
